Uniworks

First in the family

So, you're interested in university but your parents didn't go. You've probably got lots of questions, but don't panic! There are plenty of ways to get more information to help you decide whether university is for you:

Maybe your parents didn't go to university, but what about your brothers, sisters or even cousins? If they are currently studying at university, or even if they've already graduated, ask them how they decided university was the right option for them.

If you are currently in education, talk to your teachers or tutors. Most of them will have attended university in order to qualify for the job they do, so they''ll be able to tell you about their own experiences.
Visit a university. All universities offer Open Days, and having a good look around and talking to some current students can really help you work out whether university is for you.
If you are worried you might feel out of place, then don't be! Universities attract people from all backgrounds and give you a unique opportunity to meet people from all over the country and often the world! You'll also get the chance to explore interests outside of academic work through clubs and societies, and meet people with the same interests as you.
There are lots of issues to consider when you are thinking about whether university would be a good option for you.

Here are some of the key things to think about:
· What course you would like to do
· Where you want to study
