Eastwood & Partners
How do you advertise vacancies that graduates could apply for?We advertise our vacancies through Graduates Yorkshire, Monster and through the University Careers Days including through the Industrial Partnership Scheme with the Department of Civil Engineering. We also keep our vacancies live on our website.
From which degree discipline do you normally recruit graduates? We ask that our graduates hold degrees in Civil/Structural Engineering. For our mechanical engineering department, we expect graduates to have degrees in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering. For a position within our geotechnical/geoenvironmental section, we expect graduates to hold a degree in Geology or Geography.
Do you have any minimum academic requirements? (e.g. Yes/No) We look for strong academic profiles including good results at A levels. Typically 3 Bs or above. We look at University performance and expect graduates to have a minimum 2:1 classification or pass at Master's level. (For those applicants without a UK education, we look for equivalent academic performance). We realise that there maybe exceptional circumstances for some graduates not reaching this standard and would therefore still invite applicants who can demonstrate talent and commitment to engineering to apply.
What sort of work experience do you feel is appropriate for the kind of graduate roles that you recruit for? Whilst we would like graduates to show they have had summer/work experience within engineering/consulting or site work, we do realise that many graduates come fresh from education without experience. Therefore this is not necessary for applicants to show relevant experience.
What for you makes an applicant stand out from the crowd? An applicant initially stands out from the crowd with a well written cover letter and structured CV. The CV will show the candidates academic achievements and also any extra curricular activities that demonstrate teamwork, communication skills and ability to work in a professional environment.
What common mistakes do you see applicants make at interview?Applicants who come ill-prepared. Applicants that do not fully understand what we do as "Consultants" and don't show any awareness of what the role would be - research your Company!
What kind of training do you provide for new starters within your organisation?Graduates at Eastwood & Partners set to work straight away working with Senior Engineers and Directors. You will attend in-house seminars to discuss challenges that you face and you will be mentored and encouraged to start working towards chartership fairly quickly.
What is the average starting salary of a graduate within your organisation?£22k
Do you offer any other kind of work for undergraduate students? We do offer student placements over the Summer period (June-August). These are usually advertised on our website and also through the Sheffield University.
Do you know approximately how many graduates your organisation has recruited over the past 5 years? Please provide details2 each year
