How does your organisation ensure a good work-life balance?At Ashton Morton Slack we have a number of Part Time options available to our staff with commitments to children and grandchildren. These include Compressed Hours, Flexible Benefits and Job Shares. We are flexible in the case of a child becoming ill. Unpaid sabbatical leave is also available.
How are people inducted into your organisation? How long is the process?Our induction process in general lasts the whole of the employee’s first day. It is led by HR and starts with a brief introduction to the firm; followed by a tour of the building. They are then given a firm over-view, Health and Safety, Anti-Money Laundering and IT training. The new starter is then introduced to their department, the people in it and its systems and procedures.
How does the organisation embrace employees to make them feel part of the team?The culture of our firms ensures every member of staff is made to feel at home. We like to involve our people; and staff have the opportunity to join one of our Feeder groups, allowing them to put ideas forwards which could affect the strategic planning and future of the firm. We have our own online Forum where ideas, problems and events can be discussed. The firm has a strong sense of a team working together as there is no rigid hierarchy allowing the general atmosphere to be one of vibrancy and motivation.
What kind of training do you provide for new starters within the organisation?Initially new starters are trained in Health and Safety, Anti Money Laundering and IT. Once these are completed and they feel ready they have the opportunity to get involved in all of our optional training programmes covering ‘Accidents at work’ to ‘Adoption’ to ‘Age Concern’ Awareness.

What is the recruitment process for a graduate applying for work with your organisation and what core competencies do you look for?We have two Training Contract positions on offer each year. To achieve a place we expect candidates to have a strong academic record (Min 2:2 in Law) but candidates must also illustrate that they have achieved something beyond the norm proving they are dynamic and innovative. We want a candidate who will look to develop the firm, build relationships and grow with us.
