When did you start thinking about what you wanted to do after graduation? Thinking back did you leave enough time for this? During the third year; I knew I wanted to gain more practical experience in the field before returning to study for an MA. I therefore set up a series of short-term posts during this year to develop my skills in new areas. Other contacts and placements followed.

Did you experience any difficulties when it came to finding work after graduation? If yes, please describe some of the problems you faced? No, due to the excellent nature of personal connections which were fostered by staff within the Department, and good advice provided by them.
What do you wish you had known before you started applying for jobs? Be willing to earn little for a few years, in order to gain the experience which will stand you in good stead, down the line.
What advice would you give to someone applying for jobs now?Make connections; volunteer and get your self known... show dedication and professionalism, and paid work will follow.
Would you have done anything differently while at university to prepare for your career? Please give details.Learned to drive earlier!
How do you feel your degree has prepared you for today's labour market?Very well; as an academic, it provided excellent background training and skills. I am concerned present graduates do not have the fieldwork opportunities I enjoyed.
