What is your job title?Teacher of science, Lead Tutor Year 8 and Key Stage 3 Science co-ordinator
What responsibilities do you hold?Teaching general science to pupils aged 11-16, and Chemistry and physics to 16-19. Lead tutor for year 8 - duties: raising achievement and co-rdinating the pastoral program. Key Stage 3 science co-ordinator - duties: managing the schemes of works and assessments in science for years 7, 8 and 9
What do you enjoy the most about this job?I really enjoy working with young people and being kept very busy.
What do you enjoy the least?Poor senior management.
What was involved in the recruitment process for this job?I had to complete an application form, then attend an interview and teach an example lesson.

If so, how does your current situation fit into this plan?Working up through the ranks at school from teacher to senior leadership.
When did you start thinking about what you wanted to do after graduation? Thinking back did you leave enough time for this? I chose in March of my 3rd year to do a masters degree in the same department, in December of my masters degree year I changed direction and applied for another masters degree in a different field. After completing both masters degrees i began work within 1 week in a field i was interested in. I felt i have thought through my career choices well.

Did you experience any difficulties when it came to finding work after graduation? If yes, please describe some of the problems you faced? No, no problems at all
What do you wish you had known before you started applying for jobs? More about the type of work i would enjoy. Perhaps doing more work experience in different fields would have given me this knowledge.
What advice would you give to someone applying for jobs now?I think that you need to be flexible, sell yourself well and don't stay in a job that you still don't like after 6 months.
Would you have done anything differently while at university to prepare for your career? Please give details.No I wouldn't.
How do you feel your degree has prepared you for today's labour market?I felt a masters degree was essential to differentiate myself in the job market.
