I’m in my third and final year at Hallam studying English Studies. I did have my future all mapped out in year one, I would become a teacher and then become a head teacher. But I realised this wasn’t really my dream I was doing what I thought I should, so the end of second year saw a change of heart.

2nd February
If anyone else is suffering the January blues as I am at the moment, it looks so inviting having a bright blue sky, but then walking about outside and turning blue is not a good look on anybody, then my advice is to go home for the weekend! I went home for a couple days of R’nR’ which worked a treat! Yes it was a little strange to adapt back into the house routine of living with mum, dad, sister and two cats instead of five girls in exactly the same boat as me, but once I looked in the fridge and the cupboards for treats to eat (those things which mum and dad buy which you can‘t afford or just aren‘t old enough yet to think of buying) I was completely chilled out. I managed to do a little bit of work done, reading through things I had done in uni during the week, and even did a little reading into the dreaded dissertation which helped a lot. Asking my parents what they thought about my dissertation helped too as you’re supposed to write it for a novice, and for an art teacher and an MD the ideas of gendered language just wasn’t their speciality and they gave the best feedback, I just don’t get it, really helps sometimes! It shows what you need to do! Another perfect thing about being at home is the bath, oh how I miss that at Uni. So if you’re feeling a little down in the dumps I suggest that you go home, see your family (an argument with them might even help to get out all the tension and stress!) and friends and just generally relax in the way that you can only do at home!
